How veterinary acupuncture works
Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points. ARK’s existing service information describes effects on the nervous and physiological systems, including pain modulation, circulation and balance.
Stimulation of peripheral nerves sends signals to the central nervous system and may trigger endorphins and neurotransmitters such as serotonin. ARK also uses acupuncture within wider plans intended to support blood flow, inflammatory regulation and autonomic function.
Conditions ARK may support with acupuncture
ARK lists arthritis, hip dysplasia, cruciate injury, IVDD, paralysis, weak hind legs, inflammatory bowel conditions and liver or kidney support among the applications considered by the veterinary team.
Acupuncture may be combined with exercise, laser, hydrotherapy or manual techniques. The selection of points and treatment schedule depends on the individual assessment.
